Abhyanga Massage

Ayurvedic (Abhyanga) Massage

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medicine system (approximately 5, 000 years old) that emphasizes treating the whole body as a system. Ayurveda is believed to be the oldest system of holistic healing and the source to nearly all of them. In Sanskrit, Ayur means life and Veda means knowledge. Ayurveda is essentially the art and science of improving health and longevity.
Just as the universe and our earth are comprised of the 5 elements (Air, Ether, Fire, Water, Earth) Ayurveda believes, so are we. Ayurveda recognizes that maintaining balance of the elements in the body and mind is essential for optimal health and the process of finding that balance begins with self-awareness.  And Abhyanga massage helps with exactly this!
Abhyanga, meaning all limbs, is a tool of silent dialogue between body, mind and breath that encourages self-awareness. This massage also includes treatment of the head, neck and shoulders. Abdominal (Nabhi) massage can be incorporated upon request, to further aid in the process of digestion and elimination. Abhyanga is considered to be the pearl of the Ayurvedic massages, being the most effective treatment.
In addition to being deeply nourishing and restorative for the entire body, mind and soul, Abhyanga also reduces muscle and joint pain, improves circulation, immune and digestive system function, perception, sleep and helps combat insomnia as it slowly unwinds the nervous system.
